Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

January 1st of each year is the date when the U.S. Department of Education opens up the website (www.fafsa.ed.gov) for students and parents to fill out the FAFSA. The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell GrantFederal student loans and Federal Work-Study).

The Department of Ed offers helpful tips and information which can be found by clicking here

Please be mindful that there are deadlines associated with the FAFSA so please complete it as soon as possible. Many people think they need to wait until after they file their taxes but the FAFSA can be completed using estimated amounts and later edited for 100% accuracy.

Introduction

As a student of Archbishop Curley H. S., you should have the goal of attending a four year college or university. However, it is not as simple as earning good grades and performing well on standardized tests. With over 3,500 higher education institutions, you need a plan to determine which one school you will attend.

This blog and the related Twitter account (@plans4college) is designed to help guide you through the college selection and admission process. Although this process requires hard work and can be confusing, it also can be interesting and rewarding. Counseling and assistance are available to you throughout the process, but you are the one who is responsible for your search. The more you do yourself, the more successful your search will be. It is important to remember that you are the one who is responsible for meeting all deadlines, submitting applications, and keeping everyone informed of your progress and concerns.

This blog should serve as a resource for you and your parents as you embark on your journey to college. On this blog you will find various articles, presentations, and other advice related to the worlds of college and careers. We live in a digital world and this blog should help make resources more accessible to you. This blog does not in any way replace the face to face meetings you can schedule and please feel free to make an appointment whenever you need.
